Baggage-free Eddings set to become Cricket Australia chairman

Long serving director Earl Eddings is on the cusp of becoming the next chairman of the Cricket Australia board.

An announcement that Eddings, the interim chairman after the departure last week of David Peever, will take over is expected in the coming days.

Eddings loomed as the heir apparent after being named deputy chairman at the AGM two weeks ago so has the support of his fellow directors.

The board, however, will not rush the decision so it can seek consultation from the states. Unless there is strong opposition, the job will be his.

Eddings is not considered to be weighed down by any baggage from last year’s pay war or the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

More to come
