Tesla names Elon Musk's replacement as chair

Elon Musk has been replaced as chair of Tesla, with Telstra's Robyn Denholm.

The company issued the statement on Wednesday (November 7), saying Denholm will preside over the board, effective immediately.

She'll leave her current role as Chief Financial Officer and head of strategy for Australia's largest telecoms company once her six-month notice period is up.

She's served on the Tesla Board as an independent director since 2014.

In a statement online, Tesla said Musk will be a "resource" to Denholm and provide any support she requests in her role as Chair.

Tesla has weathered a rocky few months after Musk tweeted that he'd secured the funding to take the company private.

It got him in trouble with the Securities and Exchange Commission who sued for fraud.

He'll stay on as the company's CEO, but was forced to step down from the role of chairman in September, as part of an agreement with the SEC.
