LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, three persons including a two-year-old girl were killed, while four sustained serious injuries after an SUV carrying them collided head-on with a truck at Katauli village in Malihabad area of Lucknow on Thursday. All the seven members were of the same family.
Those killed were identified as Tehmamun Hussain (75), his wife Shayda Praveen (68), and his granddaughter Farheen Khan (2). The injured were identified as Hussain's son Arshad Khan (43), his wife Fareen Khan (38), their daughter Amna (05) and Hussain's daughter Shireen Khan (30), said the police. They are undergoing treatment at the KGMU Trauma Center.
According to police, the family was going from Bareilly to Lucknow by Hardoi-Lucknow road to meet a relative. Around 4.50 pm, when they reached Katauli village, a truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the SUV. The impact was such that the SUV was reduced to pulp.
The incident caused a loud thud and villagers came out of their home hearing the sound and informed police and ambulance.
Malihabad station house officer Mukul Verma said that they first received the information on ‘Dial 100’.
"Three members were found dead inside the car, while four were injured and rushed to the KGMU Trauma Centre," said Verma.
Prima facie it appears that the truck was over-speeding and it had lost control, thereby colliding with the SUV. The driver of the truck managed to run away and efforts were on to nab him, Verma added.
