Over the last month, the #MeToo wave has taken on multiple forms. Violinist-and-singer sibling duo Ambi and Bindu Subramaniam wanted to say something more. A desire they’ve channelled into their newest single, Stargazer.
“Our most honest form of expression has always been our music, so whatever we feelis channelled through that,” Ambi says. “It’s a piece,” adds Bindu, “that speaks to power hierarchies that exist all over the country.”
The helplessness that Bindu and Ambi felt as they heard story after story, prompted them to write what Bindu calls a ‘survivor’s lullaby’.
“For us, this song is about feeling resilient – knowing that whatever happens, we have the strength inside us to move on. It’s about knowing that no matter what you go through, you are not alone.”
The track has Ambi playing the cello for the first time alongside vocal and acoustic guitar elements. “It is different from our regular SubraMania or Thayir Sadam Project sound — it’s very much in the singer/songwriter space,” informs Ambi. Bindu hopes that the track is just the beginning of what a ‘collective effort’ .
