While NSE has launched contracts in gold and silver, it has also got approval for contracts in copper and crude, so those will also be launched in short order, Limaye said.
National Stock Exchange (NSE) is focused on developing the commodity market from a long-term perspective, said Vikram Limaye, the company's Managing Director.
"We are focused on how we can improve standards, what we need to do in terms of the construction of the contracts so that we get a wider participation, get the real hedging community to participate in the market etc...," said Limaye.
While NSE has launched contracts in gold and silver, it has also got approval for contracts in copper and crude, so those will also be launched in short order, he said.
"Our objective is in phase 1 to focus on the non-agricultural commodity space," he said, adding that over the next six months after research NSE then decide when to launch contracts in the agri commodity space.
At this point in time it is going to focus on bullion, metals and crude, and within metals it is mainly copper, Limaye said.
