PARIS: French utility EDF has received warning of a 24-hour national strike starting on Nov. 12, said the French electricity grid operator RTE on Thursday.The notice from the RTE did not give reasons for the strike and did not state whether it would impact power generation.
France's far-left CGT trade union will hold a conference on Nov. 12 to present its views on the future of state-controlled utility EDF amid ongoing discussions over France's long-term energy policy and suggestions that the government intends to break up the company.
The union is against the break-up of EDF.
RTE said in a separate note on its website that an ongoing strike at EDF's 580 megawatts (MW) Havre 4 coal-powered plant has been extended for another 24 hours until Friday.
The strike which began on Oct. 27 is in protest against a French government plan to shut down coal power generation by 2021.
