Cops check 444 goons within four hrs in ‘Operation all out’

The actions, initiated to ensure the security of the citizens during Diwali, was kicked off at different places jointly by crime branch squads and local police stations. In many cases, the teams also operated solo within the limits of their jurisdiction.
A statistics, released by city police, claimed the residences of 182 externees were checked during the simultaneous raids. Three externees were nabbed from their houses who were supposed to be away from city. Another 125 criminals, having different records against them, were also checked.
DCP, crime, Sambhaji Kadam, said the operations were planned to ensure the revellers were secured from being targeted by the goons. “Several devotees visit different shrines to take part in the amavasya rituals and worship in the early hours of the day. They often fall easy prey to the goons targeting their valuables,” he said. “We wanted to make them safe,” said Kadam. He added that all the officers of the ranks of DCPs and ACPs led the operations at different pockets of the city.
Cops from different ranks, including city police chief BK Upadhyay and his second-in-command Jt CP Ravindra Kadam, participated in the mission.
During the action, the cops visited the places of 152 history-sheeters to update about their present status and whereabouts. The cops also went to the residences of 50 such persons who have stepped out of the jail in the last four months. Two raids at gambling dens and another couple of actions against the bootleggers were also conducted. Six persons, earlier booked under Arms Act, were also checked by the police teams.
Preventive actions were also taken during the raids. Around 45 persons were booked under different preventive provisions.
