Tasmac netted ₹328 crore in two days

On Tuesday, liquor worth ₹180 cr. sold

The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited — Tasmac — netted around ₹328 crore of revenue for the government this Deepavali season.

On Tuesday, when the State celebrated the festival of lights, Tasmac sold liquor for over ₹180 crore, as against ₹135 crore on Deepavali day, last year.

A day before Deepavali, liquor sales through Tasmac stood at ₹148 crore. Last year, during the same period, it had registered sales of over ₹95 crore.

High sales

A source from the liquor industry said that this festive season — from November 3 to 6 — the cash cow of the State sold liquor worth around ₹602 crore. “On November 3, the sales stood at ₹124 crore and on November 4, it was ₹150 crore,” he said.

On an average, Tasmac’s sales is anywhere between ₹70 crore to ₹75 crore per day. On weekends and festivals, the sales figure goes over ₹100 crore.

According to the policy note 2018-19 of the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, as of May 25, 2018, Tasmac has 3,866 retail vending shops and 1,456 bars attached to these retail vending shops.
