In a major security breach, unidentified persons barged into Defence Officers’ Enclave and decamped with construction material worth around Rs 25 lakh.
The material was stored inside a vacant flat and a garage, situated inside the Officers’ Enclave, said police. CCTV footage shows that two persons gained entry through the entrance gate where no security personnel was sitting, and decamped with all the construction material after loading it on their mini-truck.
DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said, “We have registered an FIR under IPC section 380 (theft) at Chanakyapuri police station after we received a complaint from Jai Bhagwan, a contractor.”
The incident took place on November 5. Jai said six months ago a contract was allotted to his company for alteration of a security wall at the Officers’ Enclave. “On November 5, they stored construction material at a ground floor flat at Block no. 12, as well as in a garage of same block. Jai said he came to know of the incident on November 6 when his supervising officer, Rajender Singh, reached the spot. He found the lock broken and the construction material missing,” a senior officer said.
Verma said, “After conducting our investigation, we will send a letter to the authority concerned about the security lapses.”
