Cape Town - Sergio Garcia has surged into the lead in the opening round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City on Thursday.

Garcia posted a superb eight-under-par 64 to take a four shot lead in 'Africa's Major'.
The 2017 Masters champion struck a flawless bogey-free round as he eyes his third Nedbank Golf Challenge title after winning in 2001 and 2003.
He could just become the third player after David Frost, Nick Price and Ernie Els to win the title three times.
Meanwhile, Charl Schwartzel led the 12-man South African charge on Day 1 as he shot a 4-under par 68 to tie for second alongside Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Finnish Mikko Korhonen.
Louis Oosthuizen shot a 3-under 67 to sit tied for fifth place, while defending champion Branden Grace carded an opening round of 2-under 70 to sit T11.
