Pereira memorial tennis tourney: Top seed Eqbal crashes out

Top-seeded and fourth-seeded Shivam Dalmia suffered shock quarter-final defeats as they crashed out of the JS Pereira Memorial AITA Ranking men's tournament here Thursday.

The tournament is being organised by Bandra Gymkhana.

Eqbal from was no match for fifth-seeded Fahad Mohammed, who maintained his aggressive wining momentum and breezed to a straight sets win.

Mohammed was robust and dominant throughout as he knocked the fight out of Eqbal, coasting to a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Meanwhile, unseeded of produced a gutsy performance to defeat Dalmia of in three sets and advance to the semi-finals.

Khan stunned Dalmia with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win.

Mohammed, the only remaining in the competition, will take on of in Fridays semi-finals. Munshaw sidelined K. Srinivas of 6-4, 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

In the fourth quarter-final, which was an all-contest, Atharva Sharma recovered after losing the first set to overcome 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Atharva Sharma would clash with in the other semi-final on Friday, which too will be an all affair.

Mens Doubles (2nd round): (WB)/Yash Yadav (MP) bt (TS)/(MP) 5-2(retd hurt); Shivam Dalmia (DL)/(TN) bt Mohit Bhardwaj (DL)/Sagar Ahuja (MH) 6-4, 6-2.
