A 40-year-old man was beheaded near Kalakkad on Tuesday night after he censured two brothers who assaulted passers-by in an inebriated condition.
Police said S. Albert Selvakumar, a tailor of Mela Kaduvetti near Kalakkad, who went out on his bike on Tuesday night did not return home. His family members and relatives searched for him, but they could not locate him.
On Wednesday morning, the beheaded body of Albert Selvakumar was found lying in a bush near the Pachaiyar near the village.
During investigation, Kalakkad police found that M. Esakki and his brother Esakkimuthu of the same area, under the influence of alcohol, attacked passers-by, including one Mayakannan, a relative of Albert Selvakumar, on Tuesday.
When he saw Mr. Mayakannan being assaulted by Esakki and Esakkimuthu, Albert Selvakumar, along with a few others, censured the duo. The police suspect that the brothers might have murdered Albert Selvakumar. As the police launched a search for the brothers, they went underground.
Kalakkad police have registered a case.
