UP: Police nab five for slaughtering ox in Kasganj

AGRA: Kasganj district police apprehend five men on Thursday after an encounter, as they were allegedly slaughtering an ox.

The five were arrested from an empty plot of Khitauli village under Sahawar police jurisdiction.

The accused were identified as Tariq, Anwar, Naeem, Akim and Uvesh, who hailed from Pathan Kasba, Mohammad Querishi and Mohammad Qazi villages respectively.

Ravinder Bahadur Singh, station house officer of Sahawar said, "Our team was conducting morning patrolling when a local resident of Khitauli tipped us about the suspicious slaughtering of an animal. When our team reached the spot, the suspects fired shot at the cops, after which they were surrounded and caught with a country-made pistol, four ax and four machetes."

"We also recovered the carcass of the ox which weighed around 10 quintals along with weighing machine. The five accused were booked for illegal slaughtering of an animal," he added.

Meanwhile, in neighboring district of Etah, 11 cattleheads were found electrocuted to death by the alleged negligence of cow shelter operator.

The incident took place near Mandi Samiti of Etah city on Thursday early morning. After the incident, the cow shelter owner cremated the carcass of cattle in a pit dug by an excavator.

After the incident, SDM Sadar Mahendra Singh Tawar along with SHO Etah Nagar Kotwali Pankaj Mishra reached the spot and recovered the carcasses, which were later sent for post-mortem.

According to SDM Mahendra Singh Tawar, “The cattle were electrocuted on Thursday early morning, after they came in contact with open wire which was carrying current to power the lights for Diwali celebration. Police is investigating the matter and if the cow shelter owner is found guilty of negligence, an FIR would be lodged against him.”
