Five things to watch out for on November 9

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will campaign in the Bastar region, Chhattisgarh.  Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in the State in two phases on November 12 and November 20. The first phase is to be held in the Naxal affected constituencies of Bastar region.

Moscow will host a meeting to discuss ways to kickstart peace talks between Kabul and the Taliban. Both Taliban and Afghanistan's High Peace Council are taking part in the talks Moscow has also invited representatives from the US, India, Iran, China, Pakistan and five former Soviet republics in Central Asia.  The Moscow meeting was initially scheduled to take place in September, but was postponed after Kabul insisted that the process should be Afghan-led.

The Congress and Trinamool Congress are expected to hold protests to mark the second anniversary of demonetisation. The Congress has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the people for “ruining and wrecking” the economy. On November 8, 2016, Modi announced the scrapping of 500 and 1,000-rupee notes.

India will launch its bid for a maiden title in the women's World T20 that starts today in Providence (Guyana). After the opener against New Zealand, India will face Pakistan on November 11, Ireland on November 15 and three-time champions Australia on November 17. India's best result so far has been a semifinal appearance, coming in 2009 and 2010. This is the first standalone World T20 for women after being held alongside the men’s event in the past editions. 

Brexit is set to be discussed between French President Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May when they meet in northern France for a ceremony to mark the World War I Armistice. May is also scheduled to have lunch with Macron and dinner with other leaders of the NATO military alliance in Brussels. France has taken a hard line in the Brexit negotiations, with Macron insistent that Britain should not be allowed to negotiate advantages for itself as it withdraws from the European Union. Britain is due to leave the 28-nation bloc on March 29 next year, but details of its withdrawal treaty have yet to be agreed.
