Concern over schools run by adi dravidar welfare dept

Coimbatore: National commission for scheduled caste (NCSC) vice-chairman L Murugan has raised concern over the schools run by adi dravidar welfare department in the state because of its poor quality of education.
Murugan was in the city to inaugurate the workshop on hazardous cleaning for sanitary workers. While speaking to reporters later, Murugan said schools run by the department in other states, including Telangana and Maharashtra, have been providing good quality of education. Because of this, hundreds of students have joined in reputed institutions and many others have excelled in sports.

“But, not even a single student studied sin those schools in the state has managed to enter into government colleges or excel in sports till date. It shows the poor quality of education provided in these schools,” he said, adding that the commission had written to principal secretary and additional secretary of the department to concentrate on the schools and improve its facilities.

Speaking about the identification and recovery of ‘panchami’ lands, he said the state government, which has been inquiring into the issue, has identified about 1.8 lakh cents of ‘panchami’ land across the state and more than 1,000 related cases are in the courts. “The commission has been issuing eviction notices to encroachers. So far, we have issued over 500 notices in Tirupur. We are identifying lands in several districts including Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai and Vellore.”
