Pune: Corporators have given a proposal to secure 10 per cent quota in private educational institutes for admission, which take concession from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the form of Floor Space Index (FSI), Transfer Development Rights (TDR) and rent.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporators Bhaiyasaheb Jadhav and Ashok Kamble have submitted a proposal to the City Improvement Committee (CIC) on Monday. The committee meeting is scheduled for next week.

Jadhav, a NCP corporator from Kharadi area, said, “We have given proposal to reserve 10 per cent admission quota in private educational institutes, which take concession from the Corporation. It has been seen that the corporation has given their land to private institutes at a nominal rent to run their institutes. For social responsibility, the corporation gave concession by providing additional FSI, TDR and the land at a nominal rent.”

He said, “We mentioned in the proposal that a total of 10 per cent reservation should be given to corporation employees (5 per cent) and local residents (5 per cent). Corporation should include this condition in the rent agreement with the institutes.”

Sushil Mengade, Chairman of City Improvement Committee, said, “Corporation has given land to different education institutes on nominal rent, which has a cost of crore of rupees in the market. The corporators have given a proposal to secure admission quota in those educational institutes. We will discuss the proposal in the committee meeting and will take a positive decision.”
