Tirupur: As many as 95 cases were registered against the people, who failed to comply with the Supreme Court order on bursting firecrackers on Tuesday.

After the Supreme Court stipulated time slots for bursting firecrackers, Tamil Nadu obtained permission for letting people use them between 6am and 7am, and 7pm and 8pm on the Diwali day. The state government was directed to take action against the violators and monitor air quality.

Police booked 63 people for violating the SC direction under section 285 of IPC (Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) in the dollar city and released them on bail. As many as 32 cases were booked in rural areas.

“We booked only adults who failed to follow the instructions and released them on bail,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu pollution control board, which had installed equipment for monitoring air quality, plans to submit a report before the apex court.
