LSG forms senior citizens vigil committees in all panchayats

The vigil committees aim at ensuring the welfare of senior citizens and address issues like denial of freedom and violation of rights.
The committee includes ICDS chairperson, gram panchayat president, welfare standing committee chairperson, gram panchayat secretary, ICDS supervisor, medical officer, SI, senior citizen forum member and village officer.
The demand to form senior citizens vigil committees was raised in a petition filed by T D Sreedharan, secretary of senior citizens club, Mattathur. The panchayat director has submitted a report based on the petition. In the report the director said that it would be advisable to form senior citizens vigil committees to deal with atrocities againt old persons, violation of rights and other issues. It would also help ensure welfare of elderly citizens, the director said in the report. The committees have been formed as per the recommendations in the report filed by panchayat director.
