HYDERABAD: Attributing parked vehicles on roads as one of the reason for traffic jams, experts are of the opinion that building multi-level parking, giving perks to plot owners who allow parking in their open land and implementing street vending policy will provide relief to commuters.
“Conventional and automated multi level parking, conventional multi-level car parking (which can be done anywhere) over the ground or under it can curb parking as well as traffic menace in the city. Open parking spaces are preferred over closed areas as specialised fire protection systems and mechanical ventilation are not needed,” said S P Anchuri, VP (south), Structural Engineers World Congress.
Agreeing with the experts, P M Sai Prasad, an RTI activist working for civic causes said that perks should be given to plot owners who lease out land for parking. “Apart from giving discount on property tax, perks which attract the plot owners such as shopping coupons should be given. People who work towards civic issues should be identified facilitated and rewarded by authorities in public domain,” said Prasad.
Prashant Lingam, co founder of Bamboo House said that proper implementation of street vending policy can solve the issue of vehicles being parked on the corner of the roads. “If the policy is implemented and exclusive areas are marked for hawkers vehicles being parked towards the corner of road crunching road space will reduce,” said Prashant.
