LUCKNOW: Former Indian team captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar on Tuesday escaped unhurt after a glass door of the commentary box at the newly-built stadium shattered just as they were entering the enclosure.

The stadium was renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium by CM Yogi Adityananth earlier in the day.

"One of the glass doors just crumbled like a pack of cards but luckily no one sustained any injuries. All are safe," Manjrekar said.

There was mismanagement and chaos during international cricket's return to the 'City of Nawabs' after a hiatus of 24 years.

The stadium is a private property situated inside the Ekana Sportz City.

Inexperience on the part of organisers was visible and mediapersons covering the match were worst sufferers.

The media box is swanky but erratic internet and power connection, coupled with frequent power cuts caused inconvenience.

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association officials looked helpless as the stadium is a private property.
