2019 BMW Z4 Driven: Has The New Roadster Been Worth The Wait?

Nearly two years after BMW discontinued the E89 Z4, they finally replaced it with an all new model.

Co-developed with Toyota’s upcoming Supra, it’s known as the G29, and still benefits from a front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive set up.

Thus, BMW has stayed true to the sports car recipe, while giving nothing but the best to the new Z4. On paper, compared to its predecessor, it’s better in everything: design, comfort, boot space and, best of all, power.

The M40i tops the four-cylinder offerings, namely the sDrive20i and sDrive30i, both of them equipped with a 2.0-liter four-pot, and is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter engine. The lump boasts 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, and pushes the range-topping Z4 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

So far, everything sounds nearly perfect, and as one of the first reviews of the car points out, the engine makes the car very exciting, especially with the Sport mode activated. The steering is accurate, with good feedback, and while the ride may not be the comfiest, it’s still nice enough to allow users to enjoy the new Z4 on a sunny day, with the roof lowered.

Of course, there are some flaws with the German roadster, but the main question is if it has been worth the wait. Well, click and find out what the first reviewers have to say about it.
