CHENNAI: Andhra Pradesh CM and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who had called upon opposition parties to unite after meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, is to call on DMK president M K Stalin on Friday.
DMK sources told TOI that the meeting will be held at Stalin’s residence on Friday evening.
“Senior DMK leaders including party treasurer S Duraimurugan, party’s principal secretary T R Baalu and others will be present during the meeting between Stalin and Naidu. Our Thalaivar has already announced that DMK will join the alliance against BJP,” said a senior DMK leader. Naidu’s visit to New Delhi last week had given opposition unity a fillip, with a flurry of meetings with both national and regional leaders in the opposition. After meeting Gandhi, Naidu announced an alliance between the Congress and TDP in Andhra and Telangana. Naidu then stated that he would meet Stalin to bring about all regional parties, along with Congress, under one front. Stalin too had welcomed the meeting between Naidu and Gandhi on twitter.
“Naidu has already called on SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, CPM leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury; CPI national leaders; NCP founder Sharad Pawar and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah as well as JD(S) founder Deve Gowda among other regional party leaders. He will also contact Mamata Banerjee to include her party in the alliance,” said the DMK leader
