When it comes to creating a fashionable home, it's worth turning to the experts for advice on what's chic, stylish and in vogue.

The Block winners, sisters Alisa and Lysandra Fraser, believe colour is an effortless way to tune into current trends and offer an instant style update.

The dynamic duo, who run a busy design studio, recently shared their thoughts on hues set to be hot next season - and the one shade they say should absolutely be retired.

In a feature for News.com.au, the pair explained 'millennial pink' (a soft hued shade of blush) is no longer a stylish or on-trend colour in modern decorating.

The past few years has seen this shade virtually replace white as a neutral, however, according to the pair, the pretty pink shade has done its dash.

'We will be washing and then carefully folding away our much-loved millennial pink soft furnishings to make way for some fresh, nature-inspired colours this coming season,' they said.

Other trends the sisters say are no longer relevant include Scandi-inspired interiors or those focussed on austere minimalism.

Instead, when shopping for accessories, the pair say think 'sturdy and natural' and urge interior enthusiasts to stay away from anything in rose gold or black.

They said this means choosing pieces which are finished with an antique brass look or in shades of gun-metal grey, and they advise to opt for heavier furniture items.

'We will be looking for heavy, wooden coffee tables with room for many a magazine stack, rather than the slim, Nordic, or metal framed ones we have seen in abundance in recent years.'

The stylish designers also said to expect a shift in direction toward nature-inspired hues when it comes to interiors.

They explain earthy tones such as deep browns are set to be the next big thing' and will be featured in all manner of accessories from tiles to cushions.

The pair also advises this colour can be used to create a stunning statement.

They suggest a stone-topped bench in a warm shade of coffee, or a wood-panelled feature wall, or lining a floor or bathroom wall with stunning terrazzo tiles.

The interior experts say the right shade of brown can bring an incredible sense of warmth, however, they note 'texture is key' and that a cool, flat shade will have the opposite effect.

Staying with a theme of nature-inspired interiors, Alisa and Lysandra, say the colour sage green is expected to make stunning appearance.

Try earthy tones such as terracotta, cream and dark green along with deep blues create

Cooler tones such as grey, blush pink and pale blue also lend a contemporary and modern touch

The colour - one that's almost a grey-green hue - can be thought of as a contemporary take on classic neutrals such as ivory or off-white.

They explain the colour green both calming as well as injecting a fresh hit of positive energy into the home.

If a sage-green feature walls feel too overwhelming, approach the trend by adding accessories such as throws or cushions.

Lastly, the indoor plant trend continues to endure, the design duo said.
