MOHALI: As the city celebrates Diwali, police will be on extra vigil. Sources in the police department said many leaves have been cancelled because of the threat perception from Kashmiri militants in the state. Police have been asked to remain on their toes and all PCR vehicles have been directed to step up patrolling.

Foot patrolling teams have been constituted with directions to patrol busy markets and streets in residential areas. The idea is to tackle petty crime and boost the intelligence-gathering mechanism of the police. These teams have been constituted under every police station, said a senior police officer.
