The late Nevada brothel owner Dennis Hof has won election to the State Assembly - three weeks after the Bunny Ranch pimp died.

Hof, 72, died unexpectedly on October 16 hours after celebrating his birthday at Love Ranch, one of his legal brothels in Crystal, Nevada.

At the time, he was running for the state legislature as a Republican - but his name remained on the ballot for this week's election.

He has 68 per cent of the vote in the heavily Republican district he was favored to win, beating out Democratic opponent Lesia Romano in a landslide victory.

After Hof won the June nominating contest for the state Assembly seat, some evangelicals in his district said they had voted for him because they believed he would clean up politics and not be beholden to special-interest groups and their money.

Wayne Thorley, deputy Nevada secretary of state for elections, had earlier said that if Hof ended up winning the state assembly set, officials would nominate another Republican to fill the vacancy.

Hof was running against Democratic Las Vegas educator Lesia Romanov in the race for a sprawling assembly district that touches both California and Utah, covering rural southern Nevada, largest stretches of desert and the Nevada National Security Site where nuclear weapons were tested.

He upended Nevada politics this summer when he ousted an incumbent Republican lawmaker in a primary, celebrating at an election night party with former Madam . Heidi Fleiss.

Hof also ran for the state Legislature in 2016 as a Libertarian but lost the race.

According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Hof had celebrated his birthday with a party attended by porn star Ron Jeremy and other guests.

Chuck Muth, Hof's campaign manager, said on Twitter that Jeremy found Hof's body when he went to wake him up the following morning.

Muth said Hof had apparently 'died quietly in his sleep.'

Hof, who starred in the HBO reality television show 'Cathouse' about the prostitutes working at one of his establishments, was running for a seat in the Nevada state assembly as a pro-Trump Republican.

Under Nevada law, Hof's name remained on the ballot for the November 6 election in the conservative district where he was favored against his Democratic opponent.

The author of 'The Art of the Pimp,' his autobiography, Hof called himself the 'Trump of Pahrump' after the Nevada city where he owned another two brothels.

Former NBA star Lamar Odom was once famously found unconscious at Love Ranch after a four-day stay.
