MahaRERA earns Rs 3.37 crore through homebuyers’ complaints

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Real Estate and Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has earned a revenue of Rs. 3.37 crore in 15 months. The authority charges Rs. 5,000 from the complainants and Rs.1,000 for those who want to settle the conflict through a conciliation and arbitration.

As per the MahaRERA records as on November 2, 2018, about 4,711 complaints have been received. Of these, 2,912 orders have been passed and the remaining are in the process of hearing. Vasant Prabhu, the secretary of the MahaRERA, said, “ The officials of other states are so impressed with our working system that they are now visiting and seeking training from us. Officials from Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chennai, and Goa have come to us and met us.

Moreover, we have asked them to copy our Mahaonline software and make changes according to the rules and regulations of their state to achieve registration of housing projects under RERA.” MahaRERA came into force in May 2017 to address complaints of aggrieved homebuyers. According to the RERA Act of 2016, only housing projects, which are ongoing or have received approvals from some planning authority, can be registered. As per an official data, 18,554 builders or developers applied for registration, of these, 3,030 projects have been registered under RERA and remaining are in process.
