Gulf victim’s return after years of despair brings cheer to kin on eve of Deepavali

This Deepavali filled light in the family of Malavath Sreenu, who had gone to Dubai in search of employment in 2008 and has been missing since then. Sreenu has come home after ten years thanks to the efforts of MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha. The family celebrated the festival two days ahead on his safe homecoming .

Sreenu, who went for a job to Dubai had to go round Oman, Iran and Iraq doing odd jobs. Though he worked for two years in Iran he did not get salary. He lived in Iraq for five years. As he met with an accident at the work place he was bedridden for one year. When he was in Dubai his agent took his passport and subjected him to much mental agony.

As he forgot his passport number and had no documents, he was at a loss as where to go. The family members approached the Nizamabad rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan and on his suggestion met Telangana Jagruthi general secretary Naveen Achari, who took the details of Sreenu by visiting the family.

Immediately responding to Sreenu’s family’s request, Ms. Kavitha informed the Embassy authorities in Baghdad and spoke to Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for help. With the initiative of the Embassy, the Gulf victim could reach home within 20 days.

Seeing his ten-year-old daughter who was just six months when he left for the Gulf, mother Gaini Bai and wife Anguri Bai, got emotional saying that he could not believe that he was reunited with his family. “I lost all hope of seeing my daughter again,” he said. Gain Bai said that after he left, the family did not get any phone call from him for three years, and hence were in deep anguish not knowing his whereabouts.

Naveen Achari and Jagruthi leaders Avanthikumar and Rajeswar Raju called on the family at their home at Vengalpad on Monday.
