Solapur: A 24-year-old tractor driver, Pradeep Kute, died after an altercation with two policemen in Madha, Solapur, on Sunday. He was transporting sugarcane to the mill with music blaring loudly in his vehicle. The policemen, who were on bandobast duty stopped him at Manegaon Chowky, Solapur, annoyed at the disturbance. The angry exchange led to blows and the eventual death of Kute.
Initially, police registered only an Accidental Death Report (ADR), which infuriated his relatives and villagers, who then protested at Madha police station. Some brought Kute’s body to the police station around 9pm on Sunday, leading to a tense situation.
Later, officials led by Superintendent of Police Manoj Patil came to the station to meet the protesters. They called on the district magistrate of the civil court. In his presence, an inquest panchnama was conducted. Finally, police acceded to the demands of the family and the villagers. Early on Monday, an FIR was filed against constables Dashrath Kumbhar and Deepak Kshirsagar for the murder of Kute (section 302) of the IPC. Kute’s body has been sent for postmortem. The state intelligence department is going to conduct an inquiry. Kute was a resident of Sonagiri village in Osmanabad.
