The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday decided to set up Rayalaseema Steel Corporation on a public-private partnership to set up a steel plant in Kadapa district on its own. Although there is a proposal in the AP Reorganization Act, 2014, to set up a steel plant in Kadapa, the NDA Government has not yet sanctioned it.

State Information and Public Relations Minister Kalavaa Srinivasulu said the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation will extend financial assistance to establish the steel plant. “Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation for the Kadapa steel plant in a month. It has been decided to appoint P Madhusudan, former CMD of Vizag Steel, as temporary CMD of Rayalaseema Steel Corporation,” the minister said.

The Cabinet also decided to develop Visakhapatnam metro rail on public-private partnership on a stretch of 42.55 km in three corridors. The cabinet has decided to get financial assistance from different organisations for the Rs 8,300 cr metro project.

“The Cabinet has decided to write three letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi — two on the pending bifurcation assurances and against the amount of Rs 350 cr sanctioned for backward regions which was later taken back by the central government. The third letter is on Central government’s failure to extend assistance to Titli cyclone victims in Srikakulam district. The Cabinet condemns the attitude of the Centre for not responding to Titli cyclone damage in Srikakulam district,” he said.

The Cabinet decided to allot 2395.98 acres of land to Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) free of cost for development of Donakonda mega industrial hub in Prakasham district.

The state government will stand guarantee for a loan of Rs 3,283 cr for Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Ltd for upgradation of fibrenet on a stretch of 24,000 km to provide internet facility to all regions. The state government also decided to set up Anna Charitable Trust to accept donations from donors. It also decided to open another 152 Anna canteens in the state. The Cabinet accorded administrative sanction for Rs 6000 crore to develop urban critical infrastructure in the state.
