Ayodhya Diwali Celebration 2018 LIVE Updates: The Uttar Pradesh government has planned grand Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath likely to announce the construction of a 151-metre statue of Ram on Saryu river. The celebration is also set to create a world record of lighting the maximum number of diyas at one time.

First lady of South Korea, Kim Jung-sook, who is on a visit to India, joined the celebrations. CM Yogi Adityanath and Jung-sook inaugurated the Queen Hur memorial in Ayodhya. It is believed that princess Suriratna from Ayodhya married Korean King Kim-Suro, and became Queen Hur Hwang-ok 2,000 years ago.

The BJP had said that plans were afoot for the statue of Ram in Ayodhya after the inauguration of world’s tallest statue in Gujarat of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya this time are taking place amid a growing chorus in the party and the Sangh Parivar for the construction of a temple at the Ramjanmabhoomi through an ordinance. Many BJP leaders, including CM Adityanath, have been pitching for speeding the work towards the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya in western UP, and some of them, including Union minister Vijay Goel, have suggested taking the ordinance route.

Rishikesh Upadhyay, the mayor of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation, told PTI, “There is a proposal to install a 151-metre-tall statue of Lord Ram on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya…Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may make an announcement on this on the occasion of Dev Deepawali.”

“The place where the statue will be installed will be finalised after the soil is tested. The statue is likely to come up in the vicinity of Sant Tulsidas Ghat. Officials are looking at two-three sites, after which they will pick the best one,” Upadhyay, a BJP leader, added.

The BJP leader’s remarks came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modiinaugurated an imposing 182-metre statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the country’s first home minister, in Gujarat.
