Pune youngsters Sahil and Ruma claim U-16 all-India ranking titles

Pune: Top seeded Sahil Tambat and unseeded Ruma Gaikiwari, both from Pune, won the Under-16 boys and girls’ titles respectively in the ‘Ravetkar Cup’ Solaris Club All India Ranking (Under-16) Championship Series tennis tournament here on Monday.

Sahil packed off second seeded Siddharth Jadli 6-2, 3-0 in the summit clash after Jadli was forced to concede the match.  Sahil’s run in the tournament was an easy business and went about his campaign knocking out seeded player including Prasad Ingale 9-3 in the semifinal.

Sahil began solidly by dominating the match from the start as he took the first set 6-2. Sahil was on top in the second set too as he led 3-0 before his opponent conceded match due to health issue. In the girls section, Gaikiwari continued her dream run and defeated another seeded player. In the final, Ruma prevailed against sixth seeded Shravani Khawale 6-2, 6-1 in 90 minutes.

Earlier, Ruma disposed Manya Barange 9-3 and Shravani downed Saaz Tandel 9-2 in the semifinals. Both Sahil and Ruma bagged 15 AITA points, while the runners-up earned 10 points and semi-finalists received seven points each.

Final: 1-Sahil Tambat bt 2-Siddharth Jadli 6-2, 3-0 conceded.
Semifinals: Tambat bt 3-Prasad Ingale 9-3; Jadli bt 6-Manas Dhamne 9-7.
Girls:
Final: Ruma Gaikiwari bt 6-Shravani Khawale 6-2, 6-1.
Semifinals: Ruma Gaikiwari bt Manya Barange 9-3; 6-Shravani Khawale bt Saaz Tandel 9-2.
