The Western Railways will take on an ambitious construction project where it will build 75-foot overbridges. But that’s not it, the Western Railway is planning to commission 50 percent of these FoBs by March 2019.
“We have already constructed 10 bridges, of which two will be commissioned (opened for the public) by December 31. We aim to build 39 bridges by March 2019. The remaining bridges are likely to be ready by 2020,” General Manager A K Gupta said while addressing media on WR’s 67th Foundation Day on Monday.
There’s another surprise Indian Railway has planned for its commuter. The Indian Railways is working on plugging the last loophole in a project, after which commuters can be able to buy local train tickets through their credit/debit cards, reported Mid-Day. According to the leading daily, the Centre for Railway Information Systems through the Central Railway has forwarded a proposal to the railway board. In the proposal, it has asked Indian Railways to modify the existing lot of ticket machines, and once the changes are made the Automated Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) across the country will allow debit and credit card transactions for buying tickets. The initiative will first begin with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Kalyan.
