WCD’s vision document on gender equality to be ready by year end
Ambika Pandit | TNN | Nov 7, 2018, 04:15 ISTNEW DELHI: The ministry of women and child development is hoping to put in place a vision document with the 2030 sustainable development goals related to gender equality and empowerment of women and children in mind by the end of the year.
At a time when the #MeToo movement is in full swing and issues around gender have grabbed public attention, the WCD ministry is in the process of finalising the modalities to commission a detailed study and build a database to achieve the SDGs associated with gender, women and children.
The work will be carried out by an agency holding expertise in the field and selected through an open tender process for transparency. The vision document and study will form the basis of the submissions by the ministry on the ground status and the way forward to the ministry of statistics and programme implementation which is coordinating the process of compilation. The government will submit a status report to the UN.
On the reasons for choosing to hire an agency, officials explained that since this is an extensive exercise, it will require a team with the expertise to study and analyse implementation of various schemes of the ministry and match them with the SDGs. The work involves coordination with the nodal officer for SDGs in the ministry and coordinating with the states for assessing preparedness for achieving SDGs. It will also track implementation as per the action plan suggesting measures for improvement.
