Surat: Police were able to rescue a two-year-old girl from Mithikhadi area of Limbayat on Monday evening within a couple of hours after she went missing. They now launch a massive search operation to trace minor girls if a missing person complaint has been reported. Recent cases of rape and murder of girls in Limbayat and adjoining areas have forced police to act swiftly.
Family members of Sama Parwin approached police at around 6:15pm on Monday, claiming that their daughter has been missing since 4.30pm. “Police immediately started a search operation by using a vehicle mounted with public announcement system. I have instructed police officers to immediately take action in such cases without wasting a minute,” city police commissioner Satish Sharma said.

The girl was found around 500 metres away from her house in Mithikhadi. “The girl was sitting in a narrow lane and crying. She was spotted by another minor girl who alerted a police van nearby,” said a police officer of Limbayat police station.

Ten days ago, police were able to rescue a two-year-old girl in Limbayat similarly by using public announcement system and social media.

“We describe clothes, shoes, hair colour and other details of the girls and these had helped us to trace some girls recently,” police said.

“In the past 20 days, police have rescued half a dozen girls who had gone missing from their homes. The families of the girls approached police and we were able to rescue them by acting swiftly,” Sharma added.

A three-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Limbayat in October. Police arrested Anil Yadav, 25, for his alleged involvement in the case. A five-year-old girl was found severely injured after rape by a 19-year-old man in Dindoli a few days before this incident. Both the minor girls had been kidnapped from their houses.

Police have developed a model to trace missing minor girls. They now use public announcement system and share details of the girls on social media. The information reaches friends of police, hawk-eye volunteers and other citizens within minutes and this proves very beneficial in the end.
