TRICHY: The Tamil Nadu fire and rescue services department has stationed fire tenders and firefighters at six spots, identified as vulnerable for fire accidents, to ensure safe Diwali celebrations here on Tuesday.
Officials said the six vehicles with adequate foam and water type fire extinguishers had already been stationed in Gandhi Market, TVS tollgate, Theppakulam, Srirangam, Thiruverumbur and Palakkarai localities.
Each fire tender will be manned by 16 firefighters and an officer round the clock, in different shifts.
“We also have a couple of two-wheelers equipped with extinguishers to reach the narrow streets where the fire tenders can’t reach,” said leading fireman A Mohanraj.
More than 170 fire service personnel, including 100 city-based firefighters, will be deployed in emergency duty during the Diwali festival on Tuesday.
