Utah mayor killed in "insider attack" in Afghanistan(still photo of brent taylor) 39-year-old Brent Taylor, the mayor of North Ogden, Utah, was killed in Afghanistan by one his Afghan trainees over the weekend… (SOUNDBITE) UTAH GOVERNOR GARY HERBERT SAYING: "This is a sad day for Utah, for America" (upsound of Taylor talking) Taylor, who had been the city's mayor since 20-13, was on a yearlong leave of absence as mayor to help train and build the Afghan national army. He was expected to return to his mayoral job in January… But on Sunday, flowers and flags at North Ogden's City Hall lay as a memorial. (SOUNDBITE) UTAH GOVERNOR GARY HERBERT SAYING: "He was the personification of love of God, family and country." (SOUNDBITE) JON CALL, NORTH OGDEN CITY ADMINISTRATOR AND ATTORNEY, SAYING: "(crying) There are really no words to express loss we feel.. It's weird to think we won't see him again…" So-called "insider attacks" are not uncommon in Afghanistan. They have reportedly been the cause for nearly half of American combat deaths in Afghanistan this year… (upsound Taylor SOT) Taylor, who grew up in Arizona, enlisted in the military after the Sept 11th attacks along with his five brothers. He served twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan before his last tour. He leaves behind his wife Jennie and their seven children…. | |||||
