Bride and Prejudice viewers were left stunned last week when Fatima Abazovski claimed that her future daughter-in-law Jess Jones 'smells like cats'.

But Jess now says she wasn't offended by the shocking insult and actually took it as a 'backhanded compliment'.

Speaking exclusively with Daily Mail Australia, the 20-year-old bride-to-be stated: 'I googled 'Do cats smell?' and it actually says they're one of the cleanest animals!'

While Jess revealed that she does indeed own four felines, she says she's never noticed them to have a scent.

'From my experience, I've never noticed cats to smell... So I took it as a backhanded compliment!' she laughed during her chat with Daily Mail Australia.

Jess is currently engaged to 19-year-old Seyat, and the pair's plans to marry are currently up in the air, as his mother Fatima attempts to foil their wedding.

The second season of Bride and Prejudice introduced the Macedonian matriarch as one of Australia's 'meanest mother-in-laws' during its premiere episode last Monday.

Fatima firmly believes that Jess is promiscuous, and is a poor match for Seyat.

'Jess is very dirty. Disgusting!' Fatima raged during the episode. 'I believe Jess is a slutty party girl. I don't want my son to date a whore like that.'

After the young couple broke the news of their engagement to his parents, Fatima launched into a scathing verbal attack that forced Jess to flee the scene in tears.

Fatima showed no remorse saying: 'She's got no personality and she's never happy!'

'It won't last,' she said bitterly. 'She's not for Seyat. I feel like she's always using Seyat, she's always sooking to him... she's got no idea of anything!'

'I'm gonna come and cancel your wedding. I'll do something to destroy it,' Fatima added.
