In a unique initiative for specially abled children, the students began their Diwali celebrations by starting a vertical garden on the wall at the entrance of their own school.
The vertical garden which is a part of the green plastic initiative of the income tax department Ludhiana has been set up with the assistance of the department.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief guest Binay K Jha, Principal Chief commissioner of income tax (North West Region) said, "What better way can there be to celebrate Diwali by these special children who have overcome great barriers to even attend the school, than to set an example to society that the real celebration of Deepavali is to brighten up the environment by making it green, beautiful and pollution free.
The children who have happily planted the saplings in the vertical garden today and have promised to look after the garden have set a shining example for others to follow. They are the stars lighting up Deepawali for Mother Earth by their touching gesture."
Madhu Khosla, Poonam Bindra, Ranbir Kapoor, Dr Jatinder Kaur and Principal of school Surat Singh thanked the IT Department and Geetanjali Mehra, wife of one of the IT officers who have been actively setting up vertical gardens along with the income tax green team, for making it a special occasion for the children.
