Petitioner seeks to file case for alleged communal post on FB

A complaint seeking to register a case against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai for an allegedly communally-loaded Facebook post in connection with the recovery of a body from Laha in Pathanamthitta district was lodged with the city police on Monday.

The complaint by Pramod of Thrissur sought action against Mr. Pillai for allegedly whipping up communal tensions and exhorting for rioting.

However, the police have not yet registered a case for want of clarity on the petition. “We will be conducting a thorough preliminary inquiry and a case will be registered if there are enough grounds for it.

Technicalities

“Some technicalities are involved regarding the petition since no incident has taken place here with regard to the death of the Ayyappa devotee. Besides, Mr. Pillai is a resident of Kozhikode,” said city police sources.

The police are in the dark as to why a resident of Thrissur chose to lodge a petition with the Kochi City police. The complainant left a cover at the office of the Commissioner and left. Only on opening the cover did the police realise that it was a complaint against Mr. Pillai.

In his Facebook post on November 1, Mr. Pillai accused the Communist government of conspiring against Sabarimala with the aim of trampling upon the majority community. He said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan could not evade responsibility over the death of an Ayyappa devotee after unleashing criminal elements in the police after the victim. He also demanded the Chief Minister give up the Home ministry before calling for a hartal on November 2 in Pathanamthitta district.
