Who is worshipped on Dhanteras?
The day is celebrated to mark the arrival of Danvantri Ji from Samudra Manthan. It is said that Danvantri Ji came down with a kalash in his hand, which contained the holy Amrit manthan which was distributed among Devi-Devtaas. People also seek blessings from Lord Kuber, who is considered to be the idol of wealth and money.
If you are celebrating Dhanteras this year, the auspicious time to conduct the Dhanteras Pooja is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. in the evening.
What should you buy this year?
Lord Danvantri is said to hold a special golden kalash in his hand, bringing along with him good wealth, health, fortune. So, as a mark of respect and gratitude, it is advised that worshippers buy a utensil which can be filled with rice or something sweet to mark the beginning of prosperity in the festive season. Worshippers can also buy some gold coins or jewellery as a mark of respect to Goddess Lakshmi, who is known to bring wealth and lakshmi into the house and hence, it is considered to be super auspicious.
Some people also buy a broom, which is considered to be very symbolic to wipe out any kind of negative energy from the house and invite the Goddess home.
People also consider Dhanteras to be a very good day to make any kind of big purchase, like buying of a car or property to please Kuber and Lakshmi. Students are also advised to worship their books or buy any kind of instrument like a pen which will be beneficial for their career.
