Lauds them for efforts during monsoon

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday interacted with around 200 multi-tasking staff attached to the Public Works Department.

A release from the Raj Nivas said the Lt Governor expressed her gratitude to the staff who were entrusted with the task of cleaning up drains. She said due to their conscientious work there was no inundation during the recent rainfall.

Ms. Bedi said the sight of the staff standing in the drains to clear the slush should awaken the conscience of the public. “It will inculcate in the common public a sense of duty to not sully the drains with garbage and plastics,” Ms. Bedi said.

She also held a separate meeting with the staff of Pondicherry and Oulgaret municipalities. They too were complimented for their work, the release said.

She also directed the municipal authorities to initiate action against those who clog drains with solid waste and plastic items.

Secretary, Public Works Department, Devesh Singh, Chief Engineer, PWD, Shanmughasundaram and Director Local Administration G. Malarkannan participated in the meeting.
