Activist couple nabbed for extorting Rs 8 lakh from woman

BENGALURU: A couple belonging to a human rights forum was arrested for extorting Rs 8 lakh from a 45-year-old woman by threatening to post compromising photos and videos of her on social media sites.


The accused are Seema Khan, 45, president of the south India chapter of NGO Human Rights Council, and her husband Ghoda Imran, 35, president of the NGO's Karnataka chapter. Police charged the duo with sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation and extortion.


Imran had a relationship wi th the complainant and they had taken photographs and made videos together, an officer said. "After marrying Seema a few months ago, Imran told her about his relationship with the complainant," he said. "They hatched a plot to extort money from her."


"The woman paid them Rs 8 lakh but they demanded more money," the officer said.
