Uday Bhan Karwariya is an accused in the murder of Jawahar Singh who was a Samajwadi Party MLA. He was shot dead while seated in a car in Civil Lines area of Allahabad on August 13, 1996.
A protest application was filed at a court in Prayagraj on Monday against the state government’s plea for withdrawal of a 22-year-old murder case against former MLA Uday Bhan Karwariya, the husband of Meja BJP legislator Neelam Karwariya.
Uday Bhan Karwariya is an accused in the murder of Jawahar Singh who was a Samajwadi Party MLA. He was shot dead while seated in a car in Civil Lines area of Allahabad on August 13, 1996.
Two others, including a passerby, were also killed in the shootout, in which an A-K 47 rifle was used.
The protest application was filed by the lawyer of Singh’s family.
Apart from Uday Bhan, his brothers — former BSP MP Kapil Muni Karwariya and former BSP MLC Suraj Bhan Karwariya and their uncle Ram Chandra — are also accused in the case. All four are lodged in Naini jail of Prayagraj.
The Singh family’s lawyer Lallan Singh Yadav said, “The protest application was filed today on behalf of complainant Sulakhi Yadav (Jawahar’s brother) and family of the deceased. We stated that the case is around 22 years old and so far, 18 prosecution witnesses and 65 defence witnesses have been examined. The case has reached its final argument and there is no public interest in withdrawal of the case, in which three persons died in the incident.”
When contacted, district government counsel, Allahabad, Gulab Chand Agrihari said, “We will file a reply on the protest application tomorrow.”
