PATIALA: The suspension from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came as a shock to Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu, who claimed to have come to know of the party’s decision on Sunday, his wedding anniversary day. He said he was stepping down from the stage at PPS Nabha, his alma mater, where he was invited to be honoured for his contribution to the society, when he was told about the suspension.
He tweeted, “Just got off stage at PPS Nabha, my alma mater where I am being honoured for my contribution to society. Learned that I have been suspended by the @AamAadmiParty – ironic they chose such a day for such a news!”
Sandhu claimed the party cadres in Punjab were convinced about lack of federalism within the party and that leaders in Punjab not being given sovereignty. “I want to ask the AAP leadership in Delhi whether they had asked the AAP unit in Punjab before suspension or the suspension has been made on behest of Punjab AAP unit.”
The Khara MLA said he would “feel remorse if the people have started losing hope again” with his suspension and of Sukhpal Khaira. Depending upon the availability and consent of rebel legislators, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting could be held on Monday, he said. “Around eight MLAs are expected to participate in the meeting and decide further action,” he added.
