Work shifts to rehabilitation after Pierces Creek bushfire contained
The Pierces Creek bushfire - which burned out of control over the weekend - has been contained.
On Monday morning, the ACT Emergency Services Agency said in a statement the blaze had now been brought under control.
The declaration comes after Paddy's River Road and Tidbinbilla Road were reopened to traffic at 6am.
Kambah Pool Road, Kambah Pool and Pierces Creek forest remained closed due to the fire, which has raged from late afternoon on Thursday.
Fire crews will remain on the scene and specialist remote area firefighting teams will be brought in to help tackle the fire ground's eastern edge. Three helicopters have also been deployed.
The fire remained at 204 hectares on Monday morning and was about 7km away from the nearest suburb, Kambah.
With the blaze brought under control, work will now begin to rehabilitate vegetation damaged in the fire.
Fire crews - which battled the out-of-control blaze amid high winds and 30 plus degree temperatures on Friday and Saturday - will be aided by favourable conditions early this week.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures expected to hover in the low to mid 20s for the rest of the week.
The fire danger remained "high" on Monday, and the ACT Emergency Services Agency is warning that smoke from the fire may continue to drift across the capital in the coming days.
People with asthma or other respiratory diseases are being urged to avoid exercise or to stay inside if affected by the smoke.
