YOU'RE THE WORST
Double episode series premiere ★★½
10pm, SBS Viceland
Starring English actor Chris Geere in his breakout role as a young, blond, lippy Hugh Grant type who goes around confusing and offending Americans in his adopted homeland, this rom-com tries to be edgy but is too predictable to appeal to anyone over the age of 25. So badly burned by lurve are the star couple that they embark on a non-relationship in which someone is clearly going to get hurt. Their respective daggy besties complete the cliche.
GOD FRIENDED ME
Series premiere ★★★
7.30pm, Seven
Invoking Joan Osborne's 1995 hit single, If God Was One of Us, this spiritual spec dramady works with the concept of the Almighty reaching out to 21st-century lost lambs via the only communication channel left open to Him: social media. It's a neat idea but looks to be headed in a cheesy direction, taking several leaves out of the books of feel-good movies such as Pay It Forward. Our atheist antihero is a poster child for Christian apologetics.
FAMILY FOOD FIGHT
★★½
7.30pm, Nine
In contrast to the big personalities competing in this family-on-family cook-off, the judging panel can seem fairly staid at times. Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, provides the naturally authoritative British last word. Matt Moran can get a bit worked up over the vegan fare but never resorts to metaphorical knife throwing. And while her hair rivals the technicolour set, Anna Polyviou is as consistently sweet as her extravagant desserts.
