GREATER NOIDA: A 19-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly blackmailing a youth with threat of filing a false rape charge against him. The woman, a resident of Lakhnawali village in Greater Noida, had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the youth in lieu of not filing an FIR.
According to police, Kumari Anjali (19) was nabbed from her house on Sunday morning nearly a month after a complaint was filed against her by another resident of the area, Rahul (23), who alleged that the woman lured him into a relationship and later blackmailed him for money. Rahul is a BA LLB dropout while the accused is a graduate.
A case was registered against her under Section 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offense punishable with death or imprisonment for life) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
Muneesh Chauhan, SHO, Surajpur police station, said the woman was arrested after probe in which it was found that the messages submitted by the victim as evidence were sent by the accused. “She was produced in a court and sent in judicial custody,” Chauhan added.
