MUMBAI: A 26-year-old man, who claimed to be a fan of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, slashed himself outside the actor's Bandra home early on Sunday. Police said Mohammad Salim Shaikh, a hawker from Dharavi, was desperate to meet his screen idol and was furious at not getting the opportunity to do so. He was rushed to the Bhabha Hospital at Bandra West where doctors treated his injuries.
Khan brought in his 53rd birthday on Friday and hordes of fans assembled outside his Bandra bungalow, Mannat, to catch a glimpse of the actor. Shaikh had come there on Saturday night. He waited for more than three hours. But he wasn't permitted to meet the actor. "Shaikh had been carrying a razor blade on him. Around 3am, he slashed himself on the neck and arm. We immediately bundled him into a police vehicle as he had started to bleed. Doctors at the Bhabha Hospital conducted an examination and said the injuries were not severe. He was treated and discharged the same day. We summoned his wife and sent him home with her so that he shouldn't head back to Mannat," an officer from Bandra police station said.
Meanwhile, Khan's birthday bash at an upscale nightclub in Khar was cut short early on Saturday when cops shut down the establishment for operating beyond permissible time limits.
