A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three persons at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Bareilly on October 31, police said. One of the accused is an employee of the hospital.
The case came to light after the girl informed her family members about the incident on November 2, police said. The girl’s father lodged an FIR at the city’s Subhash Nagar police station the next day.
Police said the girl was admitted to the hospital on October 29 when she fell unconscious after being bitten by a poisonous insect in the forests near her village in Bareilly. She was shifted to the ICU the next day.
“I was not allowed to see my daughter for two days as the hospital authorities asked me not to enter the ward, and when my mother and I were allowed in on November 2, my daughter narrated the incident (of rape) to her,” the father said in the FIR.
Meanwhile, a senior doctor, said seven patients were admitted to the ICU that night along with the victim. “The father has claimed that three persons have gangraped his daughter, when she was unconscious. How could she know and recognise the person named in the FIR when she was lying unconscious? Such an incident is not possible when there were other patients with the girl in the ICU at the reported time of the incident,” the doctor said.
Police have taken possession of CCTV footage and the gown she was wearing in the ICU but have made no arrests so far.
“We are investigating the case. We have not arrested anyone…, Jag Narain Pandey, the in-charge of the Subhash Nagar police station, told The Indian Express over the phone.
