Pune: While blowing a bugle for the 2019 general election, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday threw an open challenge to the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party to come on a common platform to compare the development work of their 15-year of tenure with the BJP’s current tenure of four years.

“I am sure our work will be better than yours. If we are not better, we will not contest elections again,” Fadnavis said.

The CM was in Pimpri Chinchwad to address a public rally in the light of 2019 general elections in Shiv Sena-dominated Maval and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies. Pimpri Chichwad area comes under the Maval constituency, where Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Barne is currently a member of Parliament.

While addressing a massive rally, Fadnavis said that after four years of the BJP’s work in the state, he would like to thrown an open challenge to the Congress and NCP.  “I would like to throw an open challenge to the Congress and NCP to come on a common platform with him and compare the development work of their 15 years of tenure with our current four years. I am sure our work will be better than yours and if we are not better, (we) will not contest elections again,” said Fadnavis.

He accused the Congress-NCP for making fortune under the guise of irrigation schemes during their tenure. “You were involved in irrigation scam, in the guise of irrigation schemes, you made fortunes, but in our tenure, we implemented the irrigation schemes such as ‘Jalyukt Shivar’ effectively and took that irrigation to the farm lands,” he said.

He said that to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister in 2019 is not just BJP’s need. “To make Modi the Prime Minister in 2019 is a need of the entire country and we need a strong leadership,” he added.
Fadnavis said that as the BJP was conducting the rally in Maval constituency, some people questioned if it was for the preparation of Lok Sabha poll and does it mean the end of alliance with Shiv Sena.

“I want to make it clear that this rally is not against any particular party. However, our stand is clear that those candidates who will support Modiji, will only go to Parliament and if allied parties show support to Modiji, we have no problem supporting their candidates.”

In a same breath, Fadnavis gave a signal to Sena saying “If you are not ready to support Modiji, we have capable candidates (signalling at the huge photos of MLA Laxman Jagtap and MLA Mahesh Landge) who can represent these constituencies in the Parliament.”
